Adjectives are words that describe, identify, or modify nouns or pronouns.
Kata lain dari adjectives dalam Bahasa Indonesia adalah kata sifat yakni kelas kata yang menjelaskan kata benda atau kata ganti dan membuatnya menjadi lebih spesifik.
Kinds of Adjectives
There are some kinds of adjectives, such as:
1. Descriptive adjectives (beautiful, cute, smart, silly, ....)
2. Quantitative adjectives (many, a lot, half, ...)
3. Demonstrative adjectives (this, that, these, those)
4. Possessive adjectives (my, your, her, his, their, our)
5. Interrogative adjectives (which,what, whose)
6. Distributive adjectives (each, every, either, any, ...)
7. Articles (a, an, the)
Use of Adjectives
1. Noun Phrases
Adjectives biasanya muncul dalam Noun Phrases (kelompok kata benda). Berikut adalah contoh-contohnya:
- beautiful girl
- cute smile
- smart student
- silly boy
- many books
- a lot of people
- half an hour
- this building
- that camera
- your opinion
- his country
- which girl
- what book
- whose bag
- each year
- any questions
- a formula

2. Complement of a subject
Complement berarti pelengkap subject atau menerangkan subject, contohnya:
- The girl is beautiful. (beautiful menerangkan the girl)
- Her smile is cute.(cute menerangkan her smile)
Degree of Comparison
(Tingkat perbandingan)
Terdapat 3 tingkatan perbandingan kata sifat, yakni:
1. Positive degree
- menyatakan keadaan yang apa adanya (Novi is a diligent girl.)
- membandingan dua benda atau orang yang sama tingkatnya (Deo is as tall as my brother.)
- menyatakan tidak memiliki kesamaaan tingkat (His ruler is not as long as yours.)
- menegaskan bentuk/tingkatan lebih (He is taller than me.)
- menyatakan keadaan yang semakin... (The harder you study, the cleverer you will be.)
- menyatakan tingkatan paling (Dian is the cleverest student in the class.)
